Leshan Giant Buddha
Carved into the sandstone cliffs, this sculpture is over 1000 years old and was intended to calm the turbulent waters that plagued ships in the nearby rivers. Visitors arrive at the Buddha's head and follow the zigzag steps down to his toes.
Acid Rain from coal power stations has been degrading the sculpture.
